Jackson State will begin a national search immediately for Reed’s replacement. Charlotte athletic director Mike Hill said Reed was the top candidate from the start. He was looking for a strong recruiter who could develop talent and had a proven record of success. We want to make creativity accessible to every person, not just those who call themselves artists. Prosecutors said at the trial that Rivers killed Reed over a dispute that stemmed from Reed’s departure from an all-women’s motorcycle club called the Deviants. Defense attorneys argued there must have been another person at the house that night who committed the murders, the San Jose Mercury News reported. A San Jose transgender activist and former teacher who gained national attention over a legal dispute with her one-time employer was found guilty Thursday of murdering three people in 2016, prosecutors confirmed. A large law enforcement presence on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles Wednesday has ordered pro-Palestinian demonstrators to disperse, calling the encampment an unlawful assembly after violence erupted overnight.

Rivers has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in prison on no bond. Dana Rivers, 67, is accused of fatally shooting and stabbing Patricia Wright, 57 and her wife Charlotte Reed, 56, as well as Wright's 19-year-old son Benny Diambu-Wright. Police allege Rivers then set fire to the family's home in an attempt to destroy the evidence. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of Patricia Wright, Charlotte Reed, and Benny Diambu-Wright. Earlier this year, their adopted son, identified in court documents as Toto M. Diambu but going by the name Benny Diambu-Wright, graduated from Berkeley High. He had been adopted from West Africa by Patiricia Wright at the age of eight.

The 2020 championship was the first regular season crown for JSU since 2008, and the 2021 tournament championship earned the first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2008. In making the program's second straight appearance in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, and the first as a No. 14 seed, JSU led in the fourth quarter in nearly achieving a historic tournament win over No. 3 LSU. JSU made its return to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 14 seed again to face No. 3 UConn in 2024, where Reed won the respect of hall of fame coach Geno Auriemma.

According to a statement of fact obtained by the Los Angeles Times, police received a report about hearing gunshots being fired at the victims' home just after midnight on November 11, 2016.

Her father Frederick Alfred Rhead began his career as an apprentice at Mintons where he learnt the art of pâte-sur-pâte ceramic decoration from Marc-Louis Solon. Frederick A. Reed has had interviews and offers with other colleges, including after leading the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and last month. She reportedly interviewed at Tulane and Tennessee about a week after Jackson State's 2024 season ended. Reed thanked God, her son Carlon, family, friends, her agent, and the 49ers' administration.

Weekend AM

Rivers became a national advocate for transgender rights in 1999 after she was fired from her teaching position Center High School in Antelope, Calif., outside Sacramento. At the time, Rivers alleged that she was fired for discussing her transition with her teenage students. Today, Rivers was charged with three counts of murder with special circumstances, arson, and possession of metal knuckles. She may be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and could also be eligible for the death penalty, depending on the judgment of the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. Patricia Wright worked in the Berkeley Unified School District for nine years, first as a sign language interpreter, then as a special ed teacher, and then as an elementary school teacher at Berkeley Arts Magnet.

Hostilities outside the encampment had been simmering since demonstrators took over Royce Quad last Thursday, setting up dozens of tents and surrounding themselves with metal fences and wood pallets. In a tragic twist, Dana Rivers was actually a very well-known transgender activist. She was in the Navy, was married three times, and worked for a decade as a Democratic political consultant in Orange County before she moved to Northern California, got a teaching certificate, and began teaching in 1991.

She formally pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, though her attorney argued she was factually innocent of the murders as well. Prosecutors claimed the motive was a fallout between Reed and Rivers, on-again, off-again friends, which centered on Reeds’ departure from a defunct all-women motorcycle club known as the Deviants. Reed, a Jackson native, was announced as the new head women’s basketball coach at Charlotte on Thursday afternoon. "Whew!" Tomekia Reed screamed after she was introduced as the new Charlotte women’s basketball coach at a news conference Monday. Reed took the program to new heights by winning five consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season titles and three SWAC tournament titles including back-to-back championships in 2021 and 2022.

As the Happy & Healthy Pets blogger, Reed provided health and wellness pet care tips for Prevention (dot) com readers. Charlotte is also the author of  The Miss Fido Manners Complete Book of Dog Etiquette (Adams Media, 2007). She served on the New York State Veterinarian Board for nine years, helping to set veterinary policy and educational standards for the State of New York. The Pet Buzz is a popular, long-running weekly, nationally syndicated radio show hosted by Petrendologist Charlotte Reed and Michael Fleck, DVM. The program is dedicated to enhancing the bond between pets and their people by emphasizing the importance of pet health, seasonal wellness, safety and affordability for a fulfilling lifestyle. In 1999, the suburban Sacramento high school where she worked suspended her after she disclosed her trans status as well as her intention to undergo gender affirmation surgery. Rivers, a beloved educator who’d won a teaching award from the school in 1993, resigned after the school board voted in favor of asking her to leave. She appeared on 20/20 and on NBC Learn and is widely cited in histories of the transgender movement for the spotlight thrust upon her case and the change it enabled.

She retired from BUSD in 2015, and began working as a part-time computer prep teacher at Esperanza Elementary School in Oakland. The defense argued it was preposterous to suggest Rivers killed three people on her own, at age 61, and argued a fifth person must have been inside the home that night. Prosecutors argued Rivers spent weeks gaining Reed’s trust, arranged to spend the night, waited for the victims to fall asleep, then used a gun equipped with a silencer to shoot Reed and Wright in their beds. Dana Rivers, 67, of San Jose, murdered Charlotte Reed, 56, her wife Patricia Wright, 57, and Wright’s 19-year-old son, Benny Toto Diambu-Wright, on Oct. 11, 2016, the jury found.
